7/25/2009 @1:09 PM EST

  • It’s aired.

7/27/2009 @2:25 AM EST

  • the raw is almost done encoding. TLer has subs. It’s a matter of waiting for him to do them, and frankly, that’s sort of up in the air. He is subbing some Shinbo shows as well, so you can guess how busy he is.

7/28/2009 @1:47 AM EST

  • still waiting on TLer. Premux is done, though. Honestly I can’t give an ETA other than “it’ll be done earlier than it was when we had to do BC”, but since the translator is doing it at his leisure and without a set schedule, I’m as much in the air as you are. He’s got other TL projects and work and stuff. I’ve just got unpaid research (i’m a physicist as a fyi (though I’m on break starting this weekend)), novel writing, forum moderating, keyboardin’ and this on my menu right now by comparison.

7/31/2009 @ 10:23 PM EST

  • Apparently the delay thus far can be sourced to the translator’s hard drive dying with the near completed product earlier this week.

TRANSLATION COMMENTS FROM OUR TRANSLATOR (who translates)

[actual translation comments]

7/18/2009 @ 9:52 PM

  • Raw is being handled still from our capper. Should see a translation by tommorrow, all things included. I should be able to crank out the timing rather easy like with the BC stuff gone as well. Most delays in the past were due to encoding slowness/ translation taking longer due to BC/ the fact that it took me a long time to go through it so I had to put it off until I had enough time, so with that gone, it shouldn’t take much time at all, as long as ZSZS doesn’t fuck with the release (again, our translator + encoder both are part of gg blame koda for deciding to sub EVERY show this season, etc).
  • Since there seems to be some confusion about what was the deal with the OP1 and ED1 translations: [gattai] established itself pretty well when we were subbing MacF as a group that, frankly, didn’t care that much about song translations. With music like this stuff, you can generally pick up exactly what it’s about. “Mazinger is awesome, God’s on the Ground, TRUE KNIGHT, ROCK ME”. So frankly, we never really gave enough of a shit to harass our translator about doing it, when we’re already asking a lot of him as is. But it ends up he DID translate it alllll the way back at Episode 2, but for some reason assumed we already had it or something. He at random last week uploaded it with everything else since apparently he realized suddenly after several months that we never had OP stuff or something. Yeah, I don’t get it either. Seeing as how we had the translation, there was no reason NOT to include it, so I did. For the DVD/BD releases, the OP1/ ED1 will be added in, so if you end up downloading that eventual batch (we’ll probably do it batch), your precious OPs will be there. Kay?
  • Speaking of OPs, holy shit OP2 owns so hard ffffffffffffffff

7/19/2009 @ 1:00 AM EST

SA Forum goon and [Gattai] QCer/ all around cool guy Grenadier made this:

fuck yeah

7/20/2009 @6:06 PM EST

  • Translator is working on material, premux should be ready soon. Assuming he gets done tonight, should have release tomorrow?

7/21/2009 @5:39 PM EST

  • Ok TLer is done, it has now entered into my court. MAZINNNN GO!

7/21/2009 @10:54 PM EST

  • And so QCing begins. I made ok pace today, considering I stopped to watch some anime with Songy.

7/21/2009 @1:00 AM EST

  • Release is out! Also, apparently Az is tired of /m/ too so I guess that’s it for that.

No more Bandai Channel :(

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Well, for better or worse, it appears the production teams for Mazinger have decided to cease production of extra content for Bandai Channel, in order to focus these teams on the TV Production. Will this mean that the TV episodes will be higher quality/ more coherent on their own? Or will there still be cuts, but ones that will only be included on the DVDs. Your guess is as good as ours.

In any case, it should make releases come out MUCH earlier (what since our delays are all sourced to A. translator, B. encoding delays, and C. laziness, which having one raw with CCs will all adress). I’m not sure if that starts this week (Episode 16) or next week (Episode 17) or what. OH WELL.

EDIT: ok yeah it starts this week.

Here’s what’s done:

  1. Broadcast Translation
  2. BC Translation
  3. OP1 + ED2 Translation (yes we actually have it for once)

Here’s what still needs finishing:

  1. BC + TV Compiling
  2. Comp. Encoding
  3. Timing
  4. Editing
  5. QC

On the bright side, we’re further along, earlier this week then we were last week! Earlier release perhaps? Maybe. Maybe.

7/16/2009 @ 5:21 PM

The full DVD Blu-ray set of Shin Mazinger has just been announced.
It will hit retail on August 25th, and sell for 18,900 yen.

A bit expensive eh? Well, it’s because it comes with this:

Zeus Mazinger

Fuck yeah

Episode 14

7/4/2009 @ 10:50 PM EST

  • Happy 4th of July! Today is the day where Americans can be senselessly patriotic for no reason!
  • Work will be beginning shortly.  It’s worth mentioning that working on E7 last week actually made Mazinger come out EARLIER, since editing two hours worth of movie has, much like how Kouji became more evasive after chasing Kiku, made me capable of editing longer and faster. And better!
  • WITH REGARDS TO /m/: I am no longer bothering to post a thread there every week; instead, AzraelNewtype may or may not keep at it. This isn’t actually in regards to anything in particular, but rather my broad disdain for 4chan which has become more apparent over time. There are plenty of funny and interesting people on 4chan, no doubt, but they’re surrounded by this hideously common black morass of effort-less, humorless, tasteless idiots. That’s a given of the #chan system of anonymity, though, so I guess it’s just not my cup of tea! Of course, the blog will be always updated, and of course the thread on Something Awful will also be updated frequently. If you’re a fan of us and our work, you should consider buying an account! And not sucking! Yeah!

7/10/2009 @12:23 PM

  • Unfortunately, we’ve been a bit delayed due to our translator/ encoder both working also on ZSZS with GG, and they made that the higher priority this week. It happens! In any case, release shouldn’t be any later than usual since I have everything I need to finish it up. Later tonight, as usual.

7/10/2009 @1:48 PM

  • Welp, our translator has yet to translate the Bandai Channel sections. GUESS WE’RE GONNA BE LATE AS HELL. Though maybe not.

Psalm of Planets Eureka Seven: Pocketful of Rainbows

I think about 50% of all sub groups on Rizon ended up contributing members in some way to this. GG + Gattai + BSS + Conclave + Mendoi + some other groups I’m probably forgetting. I personally worked on the editing, and some of our staff helped on QC!

I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS THEATRICAL PROGRAM AS MUCH AS I DID! ;___;

SPOILER-LESS REVIEW:

Here is my spoiler-less review of the series. If you don’t want to know what you’re going into, feel free to pass it up.

Wow. This movie. Going into it, I was worried we’d basically have an “Escaflowne” movie situation on our hands: An adaptation which attempted to tell a different story for a pre-existing anime, but doing it by diverging totally from the original material in both theme and content, and creating a story that is largely unpalatable to most. My fears were, thankfully, unfounded. Psalm of Planets Eureka seveN: Pocketful of Rainbows is not only a movie that does the original series justice, it is a completely unique entity in its own right.

As stated before the movie came out, a lot of animation was reused during it; however, editing has made it so that, quite frankly, it is really difficult to tell with most. Some will be obvious, but most won’t. Some changes are done in a way that they actually screw with you if you had seen the original, amusingly enough. Overall, though, if you were to ask me how much animation I could detect was reused during it, I’d say about 5%. It was probably several times than that at least, but that’s as much as I could tell outright “hey they just switched characters there”. Even then, it was really well done.

The movie has a very different thematic focus, it has a totally different plot. Old characters you knew and love have totally different personalities, totally different identities, totally different pasts. If you’re going into this movie expecting just “Eureka Seven the Movie”, you’re going to be surprised. This isn’t just a tribute to the original. It is fantastically different, with its own plot, its own drama, its own characterization. You could watch it without watching the TV series and still enjoy it, though you would draw far more enjoyment seeing just how much has changed… and yet stayed the same.

The core ethos of the story, the “core” of Eureka Seven, stays the same. It is still a story of hope, a story of love, a story of standing up for your hopes and dreams. It is distinctly “Eureka Seven”. There are scenes that made me laugh, scenes that made me gawk at how well they’re done, scenes that made me go daww, and of course, those really amazing scenes that tug at your heart.

This is a movie I don’t regret one bit, and frankly, it makes me wish that they’d do something just like it again. It’s a fantastic addition to the Eureka Seven license, and you should watch it.
