#27. Mud Bugs

Music: Papa Juniper

Oh! Well.

Fat n' happy. You know how Scolipede are!

I agree! Unrelated: do you think Scolipede like. . . do they like people riding them or. . . ?

Heard of it?! Why, I have. . . not. No.

:<

where they remain in deep slumber."

Well, let's go!

That was a good impression!

Ok!

Neat.

Music: Icirrus City

Oh wow, there are ponds here!

"mwuh mwuhhhh"

Shelmet

When attacked, it defends itself by closing the lid of its shell. It can spit a sticky, poisonous liquid. It evolves when bathed in an electric-like energy along with Karrablast. The reason is still unknown.
Choro Notes: I love Shelmet's little kissy face. Other than that they're a defensive bug-type who has a strange evolution method.
Zorak Notes: WHO GAVE THAT SHELLFISH SOME PLATE ARMOR??? Because that person was a cool dude.
HulkaMatt Notes: Where on earth did he get such an outfit? :o Was Shelmet born in a time where we had Knights in shining armor? Did Knights make him that armor? Does Shelmet have a blacksmith? Is there a blacksmith that makes these things? I NEED TO KNOW
Good Listener named this

Electric-like energy, huh? Hmm . . .

Do they all make that kissy face? I guess I should go get my duders fixed up before walking around.

Choro Notes: It's a good idea to talk to everyone! Brick Break is a nice move! It's a physical Fighting-type move that smashes through Reflect and Light Screen barriers. Nice!

Ah! Show me one of those cool moves! . . . oh.

Choro Notes: Icirrus City's PokéMart also sells these three moves. Normally I use these moves a lot! I'll probably buy these eventually!

. . .

Ah! Ha. . . :I

Choro Notes: This guy owns. He will pay more for all sorts of already valuable items!

Yes.

Choro Notes: Nuggets, Evolution stones, shards, Everstones, Gems. It's great. He'll buy all this shittttt. <3

Choro Notes: If you show up to this area in winter, these pits are filled with snow. Icirrus City has a lot of nice presents for you if you show up in winter. You also, as an aside, will hear a clapping backtrack when you're near these four dancing weirdos.

and defied foes with fierce lightning."
beginning of what became ancient Unova."

Oh? That sounds kind of familiar, somehow . . .

Hrmm, maybe I should go look around some.

How . . . dreary.

Music: Ruby & Sapphire - Trick Master

HRK.

Hey, what's—

Hey uh—

I think . . . I would like to just go home now. . .

Are . . . are you making fun of me?

I am really not—

It. . . is a. . . camera?

Why did you spell out correct?

. . . d-did you drug me?

NO
Choro Notes: You can show up to these weirdos house each day. If you get their question right you'll get an antidote. If you get it wrong you'll get a Parlyz heal. How weird.

Well let's check this out then.

Whoa! Those are some cool poses!

Mienfoo

In fights, Mienfoo dominate with onslaughts of flowing, continuous attacks. They have mastered elegant combos. As they concentrate, their battle moves become swifter and more precise. With their sharp claws, they cut enemies. It takes pride in the speed at which it can use moves. What it loses in power, it makes up for in quantity.
Choro Notes: Mienfoo are pretty cute and they evolve into a cool fighting-type!
Zorak Notes: Ah yes, the kung fu ermine. Mienfoo and his evolution are rather neat fighting types that people forget quite often, but I rather like them. They're quite different
HulkaMatt Notes: Who the fuck is this? I don't even know who you are mienfoo. I didn't even know you existed. Sup? Let's be friends
Cheapsteaks named this

a person pursuing ideals to appear."

Oh. . . there's no way in. I guess that's why nobody's been inside, huh?

Oh well, I guess I'll go play in the pond some m—

SWEET JIMMINY CRACKERS.

WHO'D THINK THERE'D BE DRAGONS HERE?!

Druddigon

It runs through the narrow tunnels formed by Excadrill and Onix. It uses its sharp claws to catch prey. The skin on its face is harder than a rock. Druddigon warms its body by absorbing sunlight with its wings. When its body temperature falls, it can no longer move.
Choro Notes: Druddigon are really tough looking guys! I think they're really cool looking. Incidentally, Dragon is the only type I've never brought to an LP's endgame/main party before . . .
Zorak Notes: FUCKIN' DRUDDIGON. Druddigon is a pissed off cave dragon whose constant exposure to rocks have given him a bad skin condition. He is mad and rad and I like him rather a lot! Used one in my Black playthrough.
HulkaMatt Notes: Reminds me of Mike Tyson. I dunno why. Don't ask me why. Just go with it.
Kazy and Cheapsteaks independently came up with this name.

Holy hell . . . I think I just caught something really cool . . .

Hey, I can try that Surf HM that the champion gave us!

. . . huh.

Who would I want to swim with . . . the razor-sharp jawed prehistoric turtle, the sharp pointy dragon I only just met while it was eating a tranquil or Hansel, master of hugs. Hmm.

Hansel you just keep being amazing.

Oh, it's one of those jiggly fellas! Clay must of got his from over here.

Palpitoad

Palpitoad lives in the water and on land. It uses its long, sticky tongue to capture prey. When they vibrate the bumps on their heads, they can make waves in water or earthquake-like vibrations on land.
Choro Notes: Palpitoad's all wiggly. I really don't have anything else to really say. It's like a big wiggly wooper.
Zorak Notes: Look at this dude's face. He is ready to rock. READY. TO. ROCK.
HulkaMatt Notes: Oh god, it only has two limbs aren't toads supposed to have four?
Choro Notes: Not when they're young.
HulkaMatt Notes: Oh. I like this anatomically correct pokémon :3
Cheapsteaks named this

Oh, a fish. . . . I think?

Yuck.

Stunfisk

Stunfisk conceals itself in the mud of the seashore. Then it waits. When prey touch it, it delivers a jolt of electricity. Stunfisk's skin is very hard, so it is unhurt even if stepped on by sumo wrestlers. It smiles when transmitting electricity. When its opponent can't be paralyzed, it contorts itself with unexpected speed and flops away.
Choro Notes: I fucking love Stunfisk. Easily one of my favorite monsters to come out of Gen5. It's got a unique type and overall is just a bizarre, really cool design.
Zorak Notes: Yeah, I dig Stunfisk.
HulkaMatt Notes: :o :O :o . . . :O . . . :o :| . . . :O!!! . . .
a mollusk named this

Oh? Something floating out there?

LOOK AT YOU! WOW!

Choro Notes: Rippling Water is just like rustling grass with the downside of no Audinos. They have two ways of interacting with them: surfing into them or fishing from them. Kind of annoying but oh well!

Seismitoad

Seismitoad shoot paralyzing liquid from their head bumps. It increases the power of its punches by vibrating the bumps on its fists. It can turn a boulder to rubble with one punch.
Zorak Notes: Seismitoad and his line are pretty neat. They're earthquake-y speaker Pokémon. They're also based on the Surinam toads. The speakers on Seismitoad are supposed to correspond to the Surinam Toad's babyholes. Aww.
Choro Notes: Seismitoad. He's a big buff water/ground type.Jesus Christ. How. HORRIFYING.
HulkaMatt Notes: One of those rare female wrestletoads that know how to perform a suplex correctly.
nipponnifties named this

Something keeps bugging me from earlier. . .

Hiya.

I can do trades with people, right? Sure.

Music: The GTS

I'm entering this dark and blurry realm. Yup. Sure is hard to see in here. Oh look a console.

Oh, eew. It's all smudged and covered in hand prints.

Yeah, theory. I have a theory.

Choro Notes: You can only request Pokémon that you've seen before. No randomly asking for Mewtwos.

Well, I really don't mind . . .

Eh, I'm not picky . . .

And now we wait.

Oh boy I can't wait to see this!

. . . Huh.

Escavalier

These Pokémon evolve by wearing the shell covering of a Shelmet. The steel armor protects their whole body. They fly around at high speed, striking with their pointed spears. Even when in trouble, they face opponents bravely.
Choro Notes: I've never actually used Escavalier! They look like they hit like tanks and can take hits . . . like, uh. Tanks.
Zorak Notes: So Karrablast/Escavalier are based on the Japanese Snail-eating beetle. Apparently after Karrablast eats Shelmet, it wears its skin as a sweet as suit of armor. Pokemon, man.
HulkaMatt Notes: ANOTHER KNIGHT BUG? WHAT IS THIS? KING ARTHUR'S ROUND TABLE???? HAW HAW HAW Just kidding, this thing is awesome. Fuck all haters (hi haters)

Well that was an experience!

Choro Notes: From this we can see a few things! Escavalier's trainer was a guy named ANDREE in all caps. It's not nicknamed so . . . it's just Escavalier. No egg moves, I guess they just threw a random one out for the dex entry. . . you know, kind of like I did.

If you look at the globe in the Pokémon Center, you can see where it originated from if they registered their location! Mexican Escavalier!
